National Meadows Day

Sat, 4 Jul 2020

National Meadows Day

National Meadows Day is an annual celebration of wildflower meadows across the UK. The event takes place on or around the first Saturday of July each year. 'Meadows and other species-rich grasslands are an intrinsic part of the UK's natural and cultural heritage - rich in landscape character, farming, folklore and history, they are as much a part of our heritage as the works of Shakespeare.

There were once natural wildflower meadows in every parish – today only 2% of the meadows that existed in the 1930's remain.' Plantlife

Canterbury Cathedral reopens to visitors

Sat, 4 Jul 2020 10:00

From Saturday 4th July 2020, the Cathedral will reopen to visitors and, from Sunday 5th July, for services of worship.

  • Monday to Saturday: 10.00 - 16.00 (Last admission at 15.00)
  • Sunday: 12.30 - 16.00 (Last admission at 15.00)

There is a range of new safety measures to ensure visitor's wellbeing, including one-way routes, enhanced cleaning regimes, hand sanitiser stations, distanced seating, additional signage and floor markings, and PPE for Cathedral staff, volunteers and Constables as appropriate.

We've also made several other changes, including the introduction of pre-booked tickets, and free entry for children and reduced charges for adults until September. Opening times may change at short notice due to funerals, weddings, services or exceptional circumstances. Please check the Cathedral website regularly prior to your visit. Please note that in line with Government guidance the Cathedral staff will collect visitors' personal details during the online booking process to keep a temporary record of our visitors for 21 days to assist NHS Test and Trace requests, if required.
